Section 51(1) of the Copyright Act, 2003 (Act No. 21 of 2003) permits fair dealing with a work for the purposes of criticism or review, of that or another work or of a performance, without infringing copyright, provided it is accompanied by a sufficient acknowledgement. Section 51(2) extends a parallel fair-dealing permission, again subject to sufficient acknowledgement, to reporting current events using a protected work other than a photograph.
