Copyright Act, 2013 (Sudan), arts. 5(2)(d) and 34
A citation is an address, not a summary. The first part names the law; what follows narrows it to the exact section, article or paragraph.
In force.
A database right rule binding public and private bodies.
As of 7 September 2026.
What it requires
- Do not reproduce a computer-readable database whose selection or arrangement of contents is original, without the compiler's authorization.
- A database's individual data points are not protected merely by inclusion in an original compilation, so copying an individual fact from it is not itself addressed by this Act.
- A lawful possessor of a computer program may make only one backup copy of it, for use if the original is lost or damaged.

What this law does

Article 5(2) extends the Act's copyright protection, without prejudice to the protection of an original work's own author, to derivative works including translations, adaptations, summaries and other transformations, collections of protected or unprotected works, publications of literary, artistic and scientific works, and computer-readable or other databases, on condition that the derivative work is itself original in the selection or arrangement of its contents.
A database whose selection or arrangement of contents is not original draws no protection under this provision, and the individual data points within an otherwise-protected database are not themselves protected merely because the compilation is. Article 34 separately lets a person in lawful possession of a computer program make one copy of that program for use in place of the original if the original copy is lost or damaged.
